Microcredentials for Educators

First Literacy microcredentials are a great way for educators in the field of Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to build their knowledge and skills while strengthening their professional profiles.

Microcredentials can be added to a resume or LinkedIn profile, giving educators a way to showcase professional development and demonstrate expertise.

Two Ways to Receive a First Literacy Microcredential

1. Participate in four or more First Literacy professional development workshops per academic year to receive a general ABE/ESOL microcredential.
2. Participate in three or more First Literacy professional development workshops from a specific category to receive a microcredential for that category.

The First Literacy microcredential categories:

• Foundational Principles (F)
• Advanced Principles (A)
• Civic, Cultural, and Current Events (C)
• Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)
• Technology (T)

All First Literacy workshops will indicate which microcredential category(ies) they cover. First Literacy will send out all earned microcredentials to participants in June after completion of the academic year. This includes a branded seal to add to your LinkedIn profile, as well as a certificate of completion.

Microcredential Requirements

• All workshop participants must be ABE/ESOL educators at a Massachusetts-based non-profit organization.
• Participants must be present for the entire workshop in order for it to count toward the microcredential program. For Zoom sessions, this includes having your screen on.
